You can apply today for current or future exemptions! This includes homestead, disability, widow/widower, granny flat, portability, low-income senior, and non-profit exemptions. To be eligible for a homestead exemption, you must be on the title (deed), make the property your permanent residence as of January 1st of the eligible exemption year, and must submit a complete application by the statutory September late filing deadline. Note: Per Section 196.011(8), Florida Statutes, we cannot accept any exemption "late applications" once late filing deadline has closed. New law provides tax relief for some property owners. This law provides relief for some property owners who would otherwise have faced retroactive taxes for properties that previously escaped taxation. In a news release, Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser, Pedro J. Garcia urged property owners to take advantage of this new tax relief benefit when the law goes into effect.
